12.1.21 Tuesday

Today’s Learning:

Morning:

Maths:  Flashback 4, Multiplying 2 digits x 1 digit with exchanges activity

Literacy: addion the ‘ion’ suffix

Afternoon:

Geography:  What are Earthquakes?

Maths

Flashback 4:  Remember, you only have 5 mins to answer the 4 questions (if you have time, can you read the time on the card too?)  Flashback 4s ALWAYS cover skills we have already learned to see if you can remember them.

ANSWERS:

Today, we are multiplying 1 digit x 2 digits but this time, there will be exchanges!  This means we will be moving values between the place value columns.  Watch the video, pause it where you need to.  If you want to record any working out you can use your white board OR the BACK of your home learning book. (These can be collected from school)  Remember to work neatly.

Spr3.2.1 – Multiply 2-digits by 1-digit – exchange from White Rose Maths on Vimeo.

This is a tricky idea!  There is only a video activity this session but can you use what you’ve learned to work out these 2 digit x 1 digit multiplications?

23×6=

5×15=

44×3=

Literacy:

We looked at how to add the ation suffix yesterday.  Today, we are going to follow a very similar rule for the ion suffix.

Let’s review yesterday’s answers first…

Reading

Yesterday, we learned all about natural disasters, today, we are going to learn more about Earthquakes and why these happen! We will focus all our topic learning this week on Earthquakes, then move onto the different natural disasters in the next few weeks.

Here is a short video on Earthquakes for you to watch:

Now, we have a non-fiction text to look at telling us some more facts and features of an Earthquake and some questions to answer after.

Have a read of the text below:

Can you answer these questions about the text? These are retrieval questions so you need to use the ‘if you find it, underline it’ rule!

The answers are on the picture below the questions to mark the answers.

Answers for the retrieval questions!

Topic Task

You are going to create an information poster full of facts about what earthquakes are! The title of your poster could be: Disaster Zone: Earthquakes! or you can write a title of your own.

Here is a fact sheet with more facts for you to read to add to your poster.

Remember to add in lots of colour and facts. You can draw your poster or design this on the computer!
