13.1.21 Wednesday

Today’s timetable:

Morning

  • Maths: 2 digit x 1 digit
  • Literacy: structure of a diary.

Afternoon

  • Geography: mapping tectonic plates

Maths

We have been looking at multiplying 2 digits by 1 digit numbers.  yesterdays video introduced the idea of ‘exchanges’ or moving values between place value columns. Today will focus on the same idea but with some White Rose worksheets for you to have a go at independently.  HOWEVER, if you find this challenging (or fancy the practise) I’ve added a more straight foward 2 digit x 1 digit sheet to try.

Literacy

Yesterday, you were learning about earthquakes and the devastating impact they have on the environments and areas they hit. Now, imagine if an earthquake struck Birdwell!! Scary stuff, ey!? Well, this week you are going to imagine being in a situation where an earthquake has destroyed everything around you!

You are going to write about this situation via a diary entry. We have written diary entries before so I am really looking forward to your outcomes – remember, a diary entry is a recount in which the writer (you) explains what has happened to them.

Features of a diary

Below are a few examples of diary entries that people have written in the past.

I would like you to have a look at them and make your own check list with what is important to include in your diaries. Think of the following:

  • The tense the diary is written in – past, present or future?
  • First person pronouns (I, we, my etc…)
  • Are there any thoughts or feelings – do you think these are important to include in a diary entry? If so, write it on your checklist!
  • Layout – paragraphs, chronological order?

Once you have decided what the important features of a diary are – I would like you to make your own checklist that you can use for when writing your own diary on FRIDAY! DO NOT WRITE IT NOW!

I will upload a checklist in the afternoon that you can use to compare against yours, you may magpie ideas from it.

Topic task 1:

Yesterday, we looked at what Earthquakes are and how they happen. We learnt lots of facts about the largest Earthquakes and where these happen!

Today, we have some slides to go through with some questions at the end to see what you have learnt! Remember you have your whiteboards to take notes and jot anything down on!

Here are the slides to have a look at:

Here are some questions you can answer in your topic books about the tectonic plates. The answers are all in the slides!

Topic task 2:

Using your knowledge from the slides, can you plot the tectonic plates on your world map from your pack?

You have already coloured in the climate zones on this world map, so you can add the lines in your handwriting pen over the top of this colouring!

Here are some maps of the plates to help you:
