Today we have used our practical equipment and the place value counters to help us with our maths work!
We worked together in pairs and as part of our table groups to work out the subtractions crossing the ten.
Take a look at our hard work!

Today we have been looking at place Value for our maths work and using base 10 to help us create numbers!
The base 10 has helped us visualise the numbers and practically build the hundreds, tens and ones in our number. We created ‘base 10 monsters’ to write down using place value! Take a look!
Well done Year 3 for all your hard work on Mathletics and TT Rockstars.
Week 6
Week 5
We have been using counters, deans blocks and pictures to help us “exchange” numbers in column addition. we can see that, in our number system, “when you get to 10, Start again!” That means, if you have 10 or more in any column you have to “exchange” them for one in the next column…get your child to show you at home!
CHALLENGE do you know 5×12

A huge well done please keep up the good work.
I wonder who will be at the top next week?
Hi Year 3,
White Rose Maths (the maths scheme we use at Birdwell) are producing weekly maths lessons for each year group.
The lessons are broken down into small steps, just like we do in class. There is a video PowerPoint with each lesson, explaining how to tackle the questions.
You can find the maths activities here: https://whiterosemaths.com/homelearning/year-3/
Do not worry if you have not tried any of the White Rose Maths at home as you can still access the previous weeks’ work.
Let me know how you get on 😎
Mr Mathieson
Well done Year 3 for earning 6600 points on Mathletics this week and congratulations to Hollie and Antonia for their certificates.
Who will get a certificate this week?
Get your name on the board……
Well done to everyone who has been using Mathletics, especially those of you who received certificates.
Keep up the good work!
Today, we have been competing against each other on Times Tables Rock Stars.
Remember you can access this game at home by logging on (using the same details you do at school) at the Times Tables Rock Stars’ website. https://play.ttrockstars.com/ttrs/dashboard

In maths, we have started dividing a two digit number by a one digit number. We have used base 10 and place value counters to help solve division questions.
In maths we have started looking at multiplication and division. Today we have been proving maths questions using cubes.
In maths we have been learning about shape. Yesterday, some children went outside to draw 2D shapes and identified angles in these shapes.
In class we have started looking at capacity. Today we have had a capacity investigation looking at how much water was in each container using ml and l.
